Listener Photo of the Week - April 20, 2011

Though I enjoy a lot of portraiture, I don't think I've showcased a straight-forward portrait in a while. So, when I saw this image, I knew that it fit the bill. I like the simplicity of the lighting and framing, which are stellar. But what I especially like is the gesture of the hand on the collar. In other images it could prove a big distraction, but in this case, it really provides a wonderful accent that completes the image. You can discover more of Georgios Karamanis' images by clicking here..

Listener Photo of the Week - March 28, 2011

photo by Doug Chinnery on Flickr
Simplicity of composition is at the heart of this image and what makes it so effective. So many images are just cluttered with stuff, way too many distractions to have to weed through to get to the heart of the image. This image doesn't have that problem and Doug Chinnery has created a beautiful composition using the important element of line, shape, contrast and lighting that make so many great photographs and paintings.
